Veneers for perfect teeth?

What happens when veneers are applied to teeth?

Do they file down and damage your real teeth? Also, how long do they last? Will they drop off one day?

Veneers for perfect teeth?
I do not have veneers, but from what I understand, yes they file your teeth down, to stubs, then apply a false tooth so to speak, to make a perfect set of teeth in looks.

Why would anyone want to do that on teeth that are already perfect? I wonder at a dentist that would go ahead with the proceedure as well....

I would think that yes the caps could come off later on or if one is hit in the mouth, or bites down too hard on something...Not a good plan, with good teeth to start with.
Reply:The teeth do need to have some drilling done to them, your natural teeth will be covered with a veneer of your choice... there are different materials that can be used. Yes, they can come off and it always happens when you don%26#039;t have time for it! You will more than likely ALWAYS need a veneer or some other type of material on your teeth once you choose to have this done.
Reply:yes they do file down you natural teeth...they last anywhere from 5 to 10 years maybe longer..you need to be careful what you eat after you have them ex.no biting into an apple, you%26#039;ll have to cut the apple into slices..stuff like that...they will one day possibly come off if you schedule an emergency appointment they should be able to cement it back on..or make something temporary till they get you a new veneer(costly)if they are your two front teeth then veneers look before other wise for other teeth a less expensive idea is to get crowns...last longer as long as its not front teeth..cheapest is bondings(white filling) make teeth look natural last longer and if there is a chip wont cost you alot of money to get a bonding(tooth colored filling)doneif you are worried about veneers get bondings done first...
