I know we should smile regardless, I tend to do it with my mouth closed though... :)

I have the same space on the other side. I%26#039;m thinking about seeing another orthodontist and see what they say. I%26#039;m really mad cuz I want my teeth to be perfect when my braces come off after all it cost me 6 grand!!

Either I didn%26#039;t wear my retainers enough or sometimes braces cannot cover tiny gaps like that. So I had veneers or had them put composite on it to fill in the gaps. The dentists said it shouldn%26#039;t get any wider than that. One of the dentists herself had the same thing on the middle of her front tooth and along the bottom. I wish someone had told me that. =T I was kinda bummed also but I notice it more than others. Still, I just got the composite anyway. Good luck!

The only way you could change that is to have a cap made which would be wider at the top of the tooth. It%26#039;s got nothing to do with your braces, and everything to do with how your tooth is shaped. The braces have left you with a nice straight smile otherwise, and what you are looking for is just not possible with the teeth you grew. I doubt most people would notice it, or pay it much mind if they did. But if you want teeth all symetrical and to eliminate the gap you are going to have to cough up another grand for the cap.(unless your dental insurance will pay for cosmetic dentistry). You can always go seek a second opinion, but thats more than likely what you will hear.

Are braces supposed to make your teeth 100% perfect?!?
Because after my planned 2 years, (now 2 1/2) my teeth still aren%26#039;t perfect! They%26#039;re only about 90% of what all my other friends who is about to take theirs off like! My dentists arent making any progess in making them any better either!!! HELP!!

You can get perfect vision with corrective eyeware and even surgery....you can%26#039;t ever get a perfect chewing force with dentures.

There are sometimes when they can pull out 4 teeth so that there is more space. If its like number two then all you need to do is get braces, maybe 2 years to fixed the other %26#039;slanted%26#039; teeth. Your top teeth can be pulled back with the help of elastics, they hook to your braces and pull your teeth back, I have them right now. Talk to your parents about getting braces, it may be expensive if your in the states I live in Japan on a Marine Base so they are free. Hope this helps.

Your teeth should come out of braces well aligned if you are following your orthodonists plan (elastics, etc) Once they are removed you should be diligent in following your instructions regarding your retainer use, either 12 or 24 hours a day. After the braces are off have a thourough dental cleaning to remove buildup and leftover cement and then give the gums time to shrink (most patients gums have swelling since it so hard to clean around the braces). Then you can consider whitening if you need it. Typically teens should not whiten since it can make the teeth very sensitive due to the large pulp chambers that house the root of the tooth. If you do, then try the crest whitestrips (about $25. +) every other day to start. Don%26#039;t brush right before you put them on and don%26#039;t eat of drink dark things for 1/2 hour after.

NO DISRESPECT INTENDED!!! I was married to a Brit so I am obviously not putting them down. I was wondering because my ex-husband does have VERY bad teeth though he takes good care of them as far as brushing and flossing. Now our son has the same discoloration and I am wondering if this is a deficiancy or if there is some truth to this and it could be hereditary. He is 8 and his teeth are turning yellow and look a little thin though he recently visited the dentist and brushes well twice a day. His hair is very thick and lusterous though.

My mother didn%26#039;t know what an orange or banana was until 1948!! Granted, not everyone suffered but a lot of people were affected. My mother lost all her teeth at the age of 21 and had to have dentures because of the lack of vitamins when she was growing up. My father on the other hand was lucky and has perfect teeth. I also suffered from the war time diet in that my mother was pregnant with me while food was rationed, even though she got extra rations as all pregnant women did back then. Living on 4 ounces of meat a week per person and other shortages affected a lot of people. My teeth were also horrible and despite regular dental visits and lots of treatment I eventually lost all my teeth at the age of 52. On the other hand, my younger sisters and brother all have lovely teeth - all their own! Add to this the poor health care system in UK back in the 30%26#039;s and 40%26#039;s and it%26#039;s a wonder all of UK doesn%26#039;t have dentures. Things are much improved now though, but the %26quot;mud sticks%26quot; as it were.So many GI%26#039;s were stationed in UK during the war and obviously brought back the %26quot;bad-teeth Brits%26quot; thing and it stuck. Most people in UK go to the dentist as regularly as US folks. Some Brits (like some Americans) never go to the dentist (YUK) and as a result do have horrible teeth.
I would hazard a guess that percentage wise there are just as many Americans with bad teeth as there are Brits, just the old stories about us from 60 years ago have become %26quot;urban legend%26quot;

Why do most famous people have "perfect" teeth?
As an example I list David Bowie who had really ugly teeth in the 70s, but if you look at him now like many others they seem so much better. Just how do these people fix the damage, from say perhaps drink, drugs, smoking etc etc? I%26#039;ve took care of my teeth but even sometimes I find myself a little envious lol!! ^_^.

That was the cost of the lab work only; because there are no NHS dentists within 12 miles of where I live, we had to take out a Den-Plan insurance and that paid for the dentist%26#039;s work.
They aren%26#039;t gleaming white and beautifully flawless because my dentist matched them to my other teeth, but at least they now look perfect in shape and I didn%26#039;t have to have them extracted and have a denture.
If you have the money and are young enough that white perfect teeth go with your age, then why not do it?

Reply:The teeth do need to have some drilling done to them, your natural teeth will be covered with a veneer of your choice... there are different materials that can be used. Yes, they can come off and it always happens when you don%26#039;t have time for it! You will more than likely ALWAYS need a veneer or some other type of material on your teeth once you choose to have this done.

Dental Assistant with not-so-perfect teeth?
Hi. I am 30, and about two years ago, I decided that I would like to become a Dental Assistant, so I did, and recently found a job.
My mother had dentures by the time she was 27, so that gives you an idea of how I was raised to take care of my teeth. I went to the dentist once as a kid, and the school took me. I don%26#039;t remember my mom ever making me brush my teeth (although as a teen, I did on my own). When I moved from home I got into a bad marriage and when I started to develop decay and cavities, my husband just said we couldn%26#039;t afford the dentist, which was true. By the time I remarried a wonderful husband, it was too late to do anything but extract my back teeth and crown some of the others, including 8 and 10 (two front teeth, basically). I take care of them the best I can, but I still have decay on several of the few remaining teeth I have.
I love the profession I chose, as ironic as it is, but I am ashamed of my teeth. Should I be?

i know what you mean! i went through dental assisting school, and found a job as a dental assistant. like you said, ironic as it was, being a dental assistant, i was ashamed of my teeth! i had bad teeth, and bad gums. so, i talked to the dentist i worked chairside with, and he was more than happy to help me out! he said i was a walking display of his work in his office, and was proud to see me smile! and, to top it off, he did it all for free! i explained to him that my mother never had insurance, so i had never been to the dentist before. he totally understood, and said it happens all the time. so, dont feel bad, and dont be afraid to talk to your dentist about doing some work for you! i was really ashamed to have the dentist i worked for look in my mouth at first, but it paid off in the end!
Reply:Ask the dentist you work for if you can have a discount on repairing your teeth. I am sure he will be happy to help you. You should not be ashamed but it would be good to get started correcting the problem.
Reply:No, you shouldnt be ashamed. I am a retired dental assistant and when i started working for the dentist i needed some work too. In due time your dentist might be able to help you with your teeth for the asking. I found that one of the perks of my job!
Reply:Do not beat yourself up, there are many nutritionist that are overweight, Doctors that have addictions and Police Officers that have problems with the law. We do the best we can. Maybe this is why you have chosen to be a Dental Assistant, to work on yourself while helping others. Talk to your Dentist I bet he/she will consider doing work on you for a reduced cost (maybe just pay for the lab bill) or may try new procedures on you for free. You are a good person on the inside and that is all that matters, be happy on the inside and it will begin to show on the outside. Good luck with all that you do!

The richer you become, the more focused you would be on problems which less rich people would consider minor or not so significant(like acne, imperfect teath, blemished skin etc), besides, the culture promoted by the very strong and acive media is focused mainly on appearance, which gives it an unpreceded importance in the american society never before experienced in history. Fat or unsocial kids can get harrased and have real trouble at school and sometimes there are suicide attempts because of that, etc.
Yet this tendency of perectingone%26#039;s looks is not a result of an asthetic sense or of developing ahgher senstivity towards beuaty, but is mainly due to accumilating great sums of money, the proof to this is that it goes parallel to a very wide spreed symptoms of obessity. If you ever travel to the staes, you would be amazed by te precentage of fat people there!!
The same symptoms have been present in almost all society during eras or remarkable economic growth(The french used toeat and vomit so they can enjoy more food , the spanishused to make the beds of the nobility from pure gold, etc)
It is perfectly naural to act pampered when you can afford it:)

Reply:well first u gotta brush 2 times a day, by the way im mike hawk, i use mouthwash in the mornin, my teeth are perfectly straight. try not eating a mickey D%26#039;s 4 @ least 1 month. its all sugar there, there only like 5 things on the menu that dont have sugar. if u cant stop eating there, dont get ketchup, 2 part tomatoe, 57 part differnt kinds of sugar.4 ur flossing problem, start doing it daily, they are bleeding because they are really weak and u dont brush hard enough, the yellow is stains and u need to get ur teeth polished at the dentists. i hope i could have helped, and good luck!!!!!!!(p.s. u gotta go to the dentist 2 times a year at least just checkups and polishing)

You should see your dentist twice annually for check ups. Americans on the whole invest in good dental care and cosmetic dentistry like whitening, veneers, bridges and crowns. It breaks down calcium in the body. Drink milk or take calcium supplements. Keep flossing, daily, brush after every meal. Sounds like you%26#039;re from Europe (duh?). Reply:Not American, though can tell you the little I have found out about keeping good teeth. Mine are nothing to rave about, but I have them all still.
Brush using soft to ultra soft brush only.
Brush from gums down for top teeth, or up for the bottom teeth only--not side to side for side to side brushing can increase receding gums.
Alcohol based mouthwash changes the bacterial composition somehow in your mouth and only serves to mask the smell and actually can be harmful...and you will have to use something prescribed from a dentist to rinse with to return your mouth to it%26#039;s natural bacterial composition.
Teeth grinding is common and usually goes unnoticed for a long time. Teeth grinding assisted mouth pieces are recommended though very expensive, most people grind their teeth in their sleep and that cracks enamel and can lead to root canal.
Digital camera x-rays will show you exactly where the gum line is receding, and other poor features of your teeth, so shop for a dentist that uses that (as opposed to just regular x-rays) just to see your mouth up close on t.v. and that will help you to identify problems.
Simple quick rinse with water often after eating anything as opposed to rushing to brush your teeth every time, as vigorous brushing removes enamel, which will never grow back.
If you get a retainer you can store cold cuts in it for snack.....just seeing if you were reading......;)
Last thing, haven%26#039;t tried it yet, but sensodyne toothpaste with enamel enhancer is supposed to help retain healthy enamel.

Reply:You should clean your teeth at least twice a day, preferably three times after meals. You should also floss or use interdens brushes to clean in between and use mouthwash at least every morning after brushing. The bleeding may well be a symptom of gingivitis gum disease which if left untreated will result in bone loss and subsequent tooth loss (teeth become loose and painful as bone recedes). You should see your dentist twice annually for check ups. Americans on the whole invest in good dental care and cosmetic dentistry like whitening, veneers, bridges and crowns. You could have your teeth whitened but it is expensive and painful and you have other dental issues to address first. I%26#039;m not entirely sure your question is sincere.

If you%26#039;re at McD%26#039;s all the time you%26#039;re probably having a Coke w/ that BigMac and fries. Soft drinks are killers to the teeth. Something to do w/ the phosphorous content. It breaks down calcium in the body. Drink milk or take calcium supplements. Keep flossing, daily, brush after every meal. Sounds like you%26#039;re from Europe (duh?). Reply:Not American, though can tell you the little I have found out about keeping good teeth. Mine are nothing to rave about, but I have them all still.
Brush using soft to ultra soft brush only.
Brush from gums down for top teeth, or up for the bottom teeth only--not side to side for side to side brushing can increase receding gums.
Alcohol based mouthwash changes the bacterial composition somehow in your mouth and only serves to mask the smell and actually can be harmful...and you will have to use something prescribed from a dentist to rinse with to return your mouth to it%26#039;s natural bacterial composition.
Teeth grinding is common and usually goes unnoticed for a long time. Teeth grinding assisted mouth pieces are recommended though very expensive, most people grind their teeth in their sleep and that cracks enamel and can lead to root canal.
Digital camera x-rays will show you exactly where the gum line is receding, and other poor features of your teeth, so shop for a dentist that uses that (as opposed to just regular x-rays) just to see your mouth up close on t.v. and that will help you to identify problems.
Simple quick rinse with water often after eating anything as opposed to rushing to brush your teeth every time, as vigorous brushing removes enamel, which will never grow back.
If you get a retainer you can store cold cuts in it for snack.....just seeing if you were reading......;)
Last thing, haven%26#039;t tried it yet, but sensodyne toothpaste with enamel enhancer is supposed to help retain healthy enamel.

Alright so im a high school senior and I go to an all-guys high school so I cant wait to get to college next year. I didnt take very good care of my teeth when I was younger so I dont have the greatest teeth. The teeth themselves arent too bad but my gums are inflamed. However, since my teeth arent exactly white im very self-conscious. Also I realized that the gums between 2 of my teeth look like they have shrunk (that little gum triangle between all your teeth). I was at the dentist recently and he didnt say anything about that. I dont know how serious it is or if theres any way to repare my gums. Im terrified that im gonna start losing teeth. One of my concerns is that girls wont go out with me next year because I dont have perfect teeth. If you have any knowledge about gum disease is it too late to prevent tooth loss? Also girls would you not date a guy just because his teeth and gums arent perfect. Please help because I have become obsessed with my teeth and its all I think about.
